A.C.E. Graduate Case Studies

(‘Jack's Story’)

Jack, an student from Kunming, Yunnan, had his study habits, character, and confidence enhanced through the ACE program. Ultimately, he graduated with excellent grades and went on to study in Canada.

· Background and Challenges

Mary from Kunming, Yunnan, shared how her child Jack's life changed through the ACE program. She believes the ACE program cultivated Jack's ability to learn independently, helped him develop lifelong learning habits, and brought out the potential given to Jack by God, making him confident and happy. When Jack was in the early years of primary school, his grades were average. With 60 students in his class, Jack usually ranked around 24th or 25th, and never scored full marks. Teachers generally focused on two groups of students: the top performers and the bottom performers. Jack, with his average performance, was often overlooked by the teachers and found himself in the 'marginalized' group.

· Mother’s Concern

When Mary tutored Jack, she noticed that Jack understood what the teachers taught, but he wasn't meticulous. During exams, Jack often lost points due to careless mistakes. Mary thought the ‘carelessness’ might be due to the fact that boys at Jack's age develop more slowly than girls. In one of Jack's exams during his third grade, he scored only 89 points. To protect her child, Mary hid the test paper and told Jack he had scored 98 points. Later, Jack found out the truth and was so upset that he rolled on the floor at home, unwilling to accept the 89-point score. He insisted on asking the teacher for a re-examination. Mary, seeing her son's distress, realized that this was not sustainable. In an exam-based education system, children who are not good at tests are unlikely to have a good future.

· Choosing the ACE Program

Mary had heard of the ACE program at church and decided to let Jack try it. So, mother and son took an important step and started to systematically study the ACE program at a local English training center. At that time, spots were limited, and the opportunity was precious. The ACE program provides a customized learning plan for each child. Initially, Jack studied at the training center every day, with his mother supervising. However, by day 20, Mary realized that she could not keep up with Jack's progress, while Jack was easily memorizing English words and content. From then on, Jack self-studied with the help of ACE teachers and often scored full marks on tests. At this point, learning became like water for Jack.

· Learning Progress and Results

Before turning 12, Jack directly entered the 6th grade of Prem International School in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Usually, most children from China cannot directly enroll due to language barriers and need to enter preparatory language classes, but Jack made a smooth transition. Prem International School uses the IB system and moves to the AP system for high school. During his time there, Jack took various subjects without causing Mary any concern about his studies. Jack’s self-learning ability was outstanding, especially in self-studying high school chemistry and American history, where he achieved excellent results. Jack's potential, given by God, was fully realized.

· From International School to University in Canada

Eventually, Jack graduated from Prem International School with excellent results and is now a university student studying in Canada. He achieved a high score of 8 on the IELTS exam and had already passed the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Grade 4 piano examination.

· Parents’ Transformation and Recognition

Initially, Jack's father did not support him studying the ACE program at the English training center. However, after seeing his child’s huge transformation, his father greatly recognized the ACE program, witnessing and experiencing God's grace. Mary believes the ACE program is highly cost-effective for their family. Compared to domestic tutoring, ACE not only taught knowledge but also improved Jack’s English proficiency, developed good study habits, unlocked Jack's potential, and shaped his character, which will benefit him for life. Because of the benefits of the ACE program, Mary later became a volunteer, helping more children learn English while strengthening their Chinese.
